ART EDUCATION

ARTPRIZE IS AN EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE. ARTPRIZE PROVIDES PROGRAMS AND RESOURCES THAT TRANSFORM GRAND RAPIDS INTO A LEARNING LABORATORY WHERE STUDENTS, TEACHERS AND VISITORS HAVE MEANINGFUL LEARNING EXPERIENCES - INSPIRING GENERATIONS OF ARTISTS AND ART LOVERS.

EDUCATION DAYS brought over 18,200 students representing 212 schools across the state of Michigan to ArtPrize to explore, create, experience contemporary art and participate in conversations about art and culture.

ARTPRIZE LABS encouraged over 14,000 visitors to participate in unique experiential learning opportunities through free activities, events and expert-produced activity resources.

THE STEAM VILLAGE returned for a second year, creating a unique learning lab experience to the ArtPrize HUB/HQ. Hands-on experiences with FIRST Robotics, KCAD FlexLab and more combined the power of the arts with science, technology, engineering and math.

THE SMARTART COMPETITION continued for a fifth year, spearheaded by Consumers Energy in partnership with Grand Rapids Public Schools. This annual student art competition, focused on the theme of renewable energy, awarded one student a $1,000 college scholarship, decided by a panel of jurors. The public also had the opportunity to weigh in for a second year, awarding one student a $200 gift card as well as matching funds for their art teacher’s supplies.

THE YOUTH COLLABORATION AWARD launched with the support of Western Michigan University. 26 schools entered artwork in the competition, and Hudsonville Public Schools took home the $5,000 grant decided by public vote. Learn more about this independently organized award and the winning entry here.
