$500,000 IN PRIZES

1,346 artist entries sought to capture the imaginations of both the public and a jury of art experts.

Over 43,000 visitors cast 384,053 votes across two rounds of the Public Vote presented by Meijer, awarding A. Lincoln by Richard Schlatter the $200,000 Public Vote Grand Prize.

The ArtPrize Nine Grand Prize Jurors selected Seitu Jones' The Heartside Community Meal, awarding him the $200,000 Juried Grand Prize, presented by Kendall College of Art and Design of Ferris State University.


As an independently organized event, ArtPrize encourages participants to not only organize exhibitions, but also organize awards that honor specific achievements within the larger event. ArtPrize community partners and sponsors offered ArtPrize Nine artists 14 additional chances to win a prize, totaling $35,000 in independently-organized awards. In 2017, ArtPrize hosted 11 independently organized awards celebrating artistic excellence in the African-American, Latin-American and Asian communities, as well as shining a spotlight on independent filmmakers and musicians. See the winners.
